Magda and Marthe's Duplex
Home build: June 2022
The Need
Build a safe, sturdy home for Magda and Marthe
How we helped
Built sturdy home to protect from the elements
Rebuild a safe home for two families whose homes were destroyed in a fire
When fire claimed the homes of Magdalene Belavois and her mother, Sister Marthe Maltide, our local committee reached out to Hope Rising Haiti, asking us to help them in this desperate time. With your help and ultimately God’s grace and mercy, we were able to bless them in their urgent need and share God’s love through the rebuilding of their home.
About
Magdalene Belavois and Marthe Maltide
Late one night, Magdalene Belavois woke from a deep sleep to see her roof on fire. She began shouting to wake up her family so they could escape. Next door, her mother’s home was also engulfed in flames.
Thankfully, God protected the families and everyone made it out of the homes alive. Sister Marthe Maltide praised God for keeping everyone safe: “I could have lost my life, but my living God was there to protect my life.” Unfortunately, both homes burned to the ground, leaving the families without shelter or their belongings.
They moved in with friends, unsure of where to turn to rebuild their homes. But they trusted in God to make a way and provide for their family. “I trust in God, my powerful father, to make a way for me. He sees my struggle,” Magdalene Belavois said.
As they prayed for help, God pointed the way to Hope Rising Haiti. Our local committee suggested that we build a duplex-style home to accommodate the needs of both families and reduce overall construction costs. These faithful women were hopeful that their prayers might finally be answered, and in fact, they were!
“I am staying faithful because I know God can make a way for my family,” said Sister Marthe Maltide.
Praise God for His faithful love and mercy in allowing us to bless these two women with a new home for their families. We are grateful to all of you who support us in continuing God’s work in Haiti. Please join us in praying for these women and their families, and please consider how you can make an impact in the future.
“I am staying faithful because I know God can make a way for my family.”
