Saying Goodbye to Pastor "Boss" Wilson

Boss Wilson, as I knew him, was involved in building some of the churches, homes, and classrooms in the Thomassique area. Boss served as a construction foreman on our projects in that area. I never saw Boss without a huge smile. He lived with joy and served the Lord with passion and purpose both as a Pastor and construction foreman.

Boss died last week. I hate death and sickness. My heart breaks with love for his family, his church, and the community in Lalum Logrann.

“‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” – Revelation 21:4. I rejoice that Boss Wilson is with Jesus.

Pastor Yves, one of my oldest friends, sent me the above photo first of Boss and second of Yponia and her daughter, along with this message about Pastor “Boss” Wilson:

Pastor Wilson used to practice voodoo, a family inheritance that was passed down to him from his father. However, being exposed to the preaching of a man of God, he developed the conviction that the power of Christ by far surpasses the power of the devil. He became a Christian and decided not only to give himself to the Lord, but to also become a pastor. Pastor Wilson went to be with the Lord at the age of 50.

Years ago, while pastoring a church in Thomassique he lost his first wife to a terrible sickness. He remained single for many years, until he met his new bride, Yphonia, who brought back his lost joy. Yphonia already had 3 children when they met and they were blessed to have one more together. Pastor Wilson was very active in the GVCM Christian Church in Thomassique along with being the main spiritual caregiver for a small GVCM church to the young congregation of Lalum Logrann.

Pastor Wilson was also a construction worker who built many of our churches and many other GVCM and Hope Rising buildings. He was a hard worker full of energy, until recently when he began suffering from hypertension. Withjean told me that while going to his garden, he fell down, lost his speech and was taken to the hospital in Hinche in coma. He was there for 17 days until the news came to us that he had passed.
